Details on arrival
Volunteers can participate year-round and the program can start any week (arrival day is flexible, except Sundays). However, there is a so-called "turtle season" during which female turtles come to the beach to hatch their nests. This period lasts from June to February on the Pacific coast. You can also volunteer during March to May, but fewer turtles come to the beach then. Please note that the minimum stay at the turtle sanctuary is one week.
How to get there
When you arrive at the airport in San José, we recommend you stay for one night in the city and take the bus on the next day early morning. The bus company to Montezuma is called "Transportes Cóbano". The bus to Montezuma leaves in San José at 06:00 am, from the bus station "Terminal 7-10". You can purchase your ticket online using the website www.laterminalcostarica.com.
In Puntarenas, the bus goes onto the ferry. All passengers have to get off and walk onto the ferry. On the other side, you have to get back on the same bus. In Cóbano, you have to change buses once. The bus driver will show you where the next bus to Montezuma leaves from. They ferry and the second bus is already included in your ticket. Once you arrive in Montezuma, you can walk to the accommodation.
