    About the program

    The Projects

Education in Tanzania is usually shaped by the financial background of the child’s family. Schools here differ greatly from those in Europe or North America, with teaching methods that can feel unfamiliar. While frontal teaching and repetitive copying from the board may be the norm, there’s also plenty of room for interaction, fun, and creativity after class.

You’ll have the chance to work across three distinct projects in Arusha, each focused on giving children from under-served communities a strong foundation for their future. Whether you’re working in preschool or primary school, you’ll support teachers and students, helping children to learn, grow, and thrive.

The projects are within walking distance or easily accessible by public transport from the volunteer house, making it easy for you to commute and immerse yourself in the community.

      -Home of Malaika’s Day Care-

At Home of Malaika’s Day Care, tiny hands and big smiles await! This community-centered program provides essential care and early education for children up to the age of 9, offering them nutritious meals, social development, and a safe space to learn and grow. As a volunteer, you’ll sing songs, share stories, guide creative crafts, and assist with daily routines like mealtime and outdoor play.

Perfect for anyone passionate about early childhood education or looking for meaningful volunteer experience abroad, this placement blends fun with purpose. You’ll support local teachers and caregivers while helping children develop confidence, creativity, and essential life skills. No prior experience is required — just enthusiasm, patience, and an open heart. Together, we’ll turn everyday moments into milestones for Arusha’s youngest learners. ✨

      -St. Thadeus School-

Step into a lively classroom at St. Thadeus Pre- and Primary School, where curiosity buzzes and every lesson feels like discovery. Dedicated to empowering children aged 3 to 13 from under-served communities, the school offers a warm, energetic environment where learning truly comes to life. As a volunteer, you’ll assist teachers with lessons in English, French, Mathematics, and Sports, and bring your creativity to extracurricular activities like educational games, first aid, or arts and crafts.

This placement is perfect for anyone eager to make learning fun while gaining hands-on classroom experience in Tanzania. By supporting teachers and engaging students one-on-one, you’ll help enhance education quality and open new doors for children who need it most. Bring patience, energy, and a big smile: together, we can turn each school day into a stepping stone toward brighter futures. 🌟

      -Arusha Modern School-

Arusha Modern School is a vibrant primary school in Arusha dedicated to providing quality education to children aged 3 to 12, regardless of their background. With a strong focus on both academic and personal development, this school creates a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

As a volunteer, you’ll work alongside passionate local teachers, helping with lessons in English, French, Mathematics, and more, while also leading fun and creative activities like singing, sports, cooking, science, or art clubs. Your enthusiasm and ideas will bring extra energy to the classroom, inspiring confidence and curiosity in the students.

Whether you’re guiding young learners or supporting older pupils, this placement offers a deeply rewarding experience — full of laughter, learning, and the joy of shaping Tanzania’s next generation.

    Typical day

All of our education projects are located within a short walking distance or easily accessible by public transport from the volunteer house, making it simple to immerse yourself in the local community. Your day typically starts around 8:00 am, when you’ll join local teachers in the classroom to support lessons in English, Mathematics, French, and Sports. You’ll help keep students motivated and engaged, offering one-on-one attention to those who need extra support and bringing your creativity into interactive learning activities.

Depending on your placement, preschool usually finishes at 1:00 pm, while primary school runs until 3:00 pm, with a 40-minute lunch break in between. Afternoons are more flexible: you might join in outdoor games, assist with school clubs, help with creative or sports activities, or even support small improvement projects around the school. Volunteers are encouraged to share their ideas and make learning both fun and inspiring!

Please remember to dress modestly: knees and shoulders should be covered at all times. Tattoos must be hidden, and male volunteers should avoid braided hairstyles. Respecting the local culture helps set a great example for the children and strengthens your connection with the community.
