Make a meaningful difference teaching English in the cultural heart of Bali. Ubud is a beautiful region surrounded by lush rice paddies, ancient temples, and a vibrant arts scene, offering an inspiring environment for volunteers passionate about education and community development.
You will directly support local elementary school children by helping them build valuable English language skills, improve pronunciation, and gain confidence through conversational practice. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to meaningful educational progress while experiencing the unique traditions, daily rhythms, and warm hospitality of Balinese village life.
Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to expand access to quality English education for young learners. Strong English skills open doors for Balinese children, particularly in tourism based career pathways. Volunteers help bridge resource gaps by providing consistent, interactive language practice that students may not otherwise receive. Lessons are typically delivered in after school settings, with most students aged eight to twelve.
As a Teaching English volunteer in Ubud, your daily tasks will be interactive and engaging:
- Lesson Support: Delivering simple English lessons focused on vocabulary, reading, grammar, and conversational skills.
- Creative Teaching: Using games, songs, sports, art, and storytelling to create a dynamic and enjoyable classroom environment.
- Student Engagement: Encouraging participation, guiding pronunciation, and helping students grow in confidence with speaking.
- Lesson Preparation: Collaborating on lesson plans, preparing activities, and adjusting sessions to suit different learning levels.
Volunteers work closely with local teachers, coordinators, and fellow international volunteers. Local staff provide a general syllabus, cultural context, and ongoing guidance to ensure lessons are meaningful and age appropriate, while volunteers bring creativity, energy, and immersive language exposure that students value greatly.
No special equipment is required for this program. All classroom materials are provided, though volunteers may bring small stationery items or teaching aids if they wish. Comfortable clothing suitable for a school environment is recommended.
No previous teaching experience is necessary. A friendly attitude, clear English communication, and a willingness to be creative make this program especially enjoyable and impactful.
Program Details and Accommodation: This program provides a fully hosted experience in a small village setting near Ubud, offering an authentic introduction to traditional Balinese culture. Volunteers stay in a dormitory style volunteer house located about fifteen minutes from central Ubud. Three daily meals are included, along with transport to and from school placements. Volunteers gain valuable teaching experience, connect with global travelers, and enjoy weekends exploring temples, waterfalls, markets, and Bali’s rich natural landscapes. The program runs year round and offers a supportive, meaningful opportunity to contribute to education in one of Indonesia’s most culturally vibrant regions.
