    About the program

This unique opportunity brings together several inspiring initiatives, all focused on supporting women and girls affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme socio-economic challenges. By joining, you become an essential supporter helping these communities build brighter, more independent futures!

WEHAF (Widows Encouragement & HIV/AIDS Foundation)

Join the Widows Encouragement & HIV/AIDS Foundation (WEHAF) in Arusha to uplift women affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Many widows in Tanzania lose not only their partners but also their livelihoods. WEHAF helps them rebuild through skills training, entrepreneurship, and emotional support. As a volunteer, you’ll co-host workshops, assist with small business (micro-financing, sustainable horticulture, baking, tailoring, and business management) and craft projects, support childcare, help raise awareness in the community and supporting fundraising efforts. This placement blends meaningful outreach with cultural immersion, giving you the chance to fight stigma, promote independence, and inspire lasting change.

What makes WEHAF unique is its focus on economic independence, giving women the tools they need to stand on their own feet. Whether you’re teaching English, assisting in workshops, or helping with social media and proposal writing, you will directly contribute to a community’s long-term growth.

    Perfect Vision

The Perfect Vision Women Project in Arusha is a heart-driven initiative empowering women and girls affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme socio-economic hardship. Through practical training in tailoring, soap-making, craft production, and entrepreneurship, participants gain the confidence and skills needed to achieve financial independence and rebuild their lives with dignity. As a volunteer, you’ll take part in business mentorship, English lessons, and creative workshops, while also supporting community outreach and vital health education, including distributing reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls to help them stay in school.

Perfect Vision takes a holistic approach, addressing both economic and social empowerment by nurturing self-esteem, leadership, and awareness of women’s rights. Your contribution will directly help break cycles of poverty and stigma, while giving you the chance to experience Tanzanian culture through meaningful human connection. Every skill you share and every smile you inspire becomes part of a movement towards independence, hope, and lasting change.

    Home of Malaika’s Sewing Group

Step into the Home of Malaika Sewing Group, a vibrant and creative workshop in Arusha where fabric scraps and beads become beautiful works of art. This dynamic initiative empowers 12 local women from disadvantaged backgrounds through sewing, jewelry-making, and entrepreneurship training. Volunteers play an active role in coaching design, quality control, and budgeting, while also helping with new product development, business mentoring, and marketing ideas.

The atmosphere is warm, lively, and collaborative — music, creativity, and laughter fill the room as women gain confidence and independence through their craft. The group’s handcrafted pieces are sold locally and internationally, with profits reinvested to support their families and strengthen their small businesses. By joining this project, you’ll help turn creativity into opportunity and empower women to shape sustainable futures for themselves and their communities.

Ulinzi Wa Kike (Protection for Women)

Education is a powerful tool, and for many young girls in Tanzania, access to menstrual hygiene products can mean the difference between attending school or staying home. The Ulinzi Wa Kike Project, launched in 2022, addresses this critical issue by teaching schoolgirls how to sew reusable menstrual pads and providing education on menstrual health.

Volunteers in this project will assist with sewing workshops, educate girls on menstrual hygiene, and help distribute the reusable pads. Your efforts will help ensure that girls can stay in school during their periods, preventing academic interruptions and supporting gender equality in education.

By joining this project, you’re not just teaching girls how to make pads; you’re empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to pursue their education, achieve their goals, and break down societal taboos around menstruation.

    Your Role

Whether you’re teaching English, leading workshops, supporting business training, or joining community outreach efforts, your involvement directly empowers women and girls to build financial independence and confidence. You’ll be part of a compassionate network driving meaningful social change. Plus, when you’re not supporting these incredible women, explore Tanzania’s stunning landscapes through exciting safaris, mountain climbs, and day trips — making this an experience that changes your life as much as theirs.

    Your Home in Arusha

Your base will be a welcoming villa right in the heart of Arusha, perfect for volunteers, interns, and travelers alike. Just a 25-minute walk from the city center, you’ll have easy access to motorcycles, taxis, and dala dalas (minibuses) for quick trips around town. After a fulfilling day of volunteering, unwind by the pool, sip a drink at the rooftop bar, or relax on the chill rooftop terrace.

These projects aren’t just opportunities to volunteer, they’re a chance to be part of something bigger, something that changes lives. Whether you’re teaching, creating, or simply offering a helping hand, you’ll be playing a pivotal role in helping women and girls find their path to independence.
