Our program offers the opportunity to interact with children and adolescents.

Unfortunately, many young people in vulnerable communities are stuck without any type of productive outlet. In most cases the kids suffer from traumatic events and need volunteers to play with them and remember that they are just kids.

Unfortunately, many young people in vulnerable communities are stuck without any type of productive outlet. In most cases the kids suffer from traumatic events and need volunteers to play with them and remember that they are just kids.

We are looking for sensitive, approachable and playful individuals.                                                                                                                                            We need creative volunteers with fun ideas for activities for the kids.

Here is what you can expect:

  • You will have the opportunity to either take care of babies in a nursery or wowrk with older kids creating your own activities with them including: art, educational games, singing, dancing, music and much more.

  • Children are between the age of 6 to 16

  • You will be working with our partner community daycares and centers 

What the children need most of all is love and affection.

08:30 - 10:30am Breakfast

09:00 - 11:00am placement before children's school 

11:30am - 1:00pm lunch time

1pm - 5pm placement after children's school

After 6pm: free time

Free-time activities

Volunteers can enjoy a wide range of activities in the city or even a few hours away like hiking, hang gliding, surfing, samba parties, etc.. Usually volunteers go on trips together to famous places like Ilha Grande, Petrópolis, Paraty, Búzios and Trindade.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 17:00

**Please be aware that there is an extra fee for those volunteers wishing to stay with us during high season periods such as Carnival or Rock in Rio Festival. Carnival festival usually takes place in February or the beginning of March and the extra fee is US$700 on top of the regular program fee. Rock in Rio Festival takes place in September every even year and the extra fee is US$350 on top of the regular program fee. Please get in touch if you are unsure about the dates for Carnival. It is also important to remember that during Carnival, all placements will close and no volunteer will be working during this week.  

Airport Pickup at Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport

Please, let us know your flight information (arrival date, time, flight number and airport). All volunteers may arrive at Galeão International Airport (GIG) or Santos Dumont (SDU). For those volunteers arriving by land, we do not offer a pick up, but rather offer a drop off from our accommodation to the airport  at the end of their program.

Casa Aprazível HOSTEL is located in Santa Teresa, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro! 

Casa Aprazível is a peaceful retreat nestled in the safe and charming Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Surrounded by lush nature, this hostel offers a tranquil atmosphere where monkeys, parrots and toucans roam freely. It features an outdoor swimming pool, a beautiful garden, and a spacious terrace for relaxing. The property also has a bar that opens in the evening. The area around the hostel is very safe, with many nearby restaurants offering a variety of local and international cuisines.

In addition to comfortable rooms, guests can take advantage of the nice coworking space, ideal for those who need to get some work done during their stay. There's also a spacious living room to unwind and socialize, and even some sports equipment available, such as yoga mats.

The hostel fosters a warm, friendly, and familiar atmosphere, making it feel like you're visiting your second home during the holidays. The hostel offers a 24-hour front desk, a fully-equipped shared kitchen, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. A delicious buffet breakfast is included to kickstart your day.

With 5 private en-suite rooms and 4 dorms, the hostel can accommodate up to 61 guests. Dorm options include a female-only dorm with 15 beds and onw 6-bed dorms. The hostel has 6 shared bathrooms.

Casa Aprazível is conveniently located just 2.1 km from Flamengo Beach and 1.3 km from the famous Selarón Steps (Escadaria Selarón). Santos Dumont Airport is only 3 km away, making it easy to access the city. The closest metro station is Gloria, only 1.3km away (20 min walk).

Breakfast is served everyday and includes:  Fruit, bread, toasts, butter, ham, Brazilian cheese, cake, juices, coffee and milk. There is also a kitchen for the volunteers use free rein to cook any other meals.

Details on arrival

This program is available every first and third Monday of every month with some exceptions: we always close the 2nd start date of every month of December -when we only work the two first weeks of the month due to the festive season-, also the 1st start date of January -when we only work the two second weeks of the month due to the festive season- and during the Carnaval week -when 3 weeks is the minimum period required-. 

Also there is a surcharge during the Carnaval week and during the Rock in Rio Festival, in September, every 2 even years.
