    Sobre el programa

    Screening / Medical Check-Up

Volunteers will assist in taking measurements such as weight, height, and BMI for both children and adults. Additional checks will include temperature, cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure. Approximately 3,000 patients are expected to receive medical attention during the outreach. Each patient will be provided with a prescription for any required medication, which can be collected at our dispensary.

    Public Health Education

As part of the outreach, volunteers will support public health education initiatives, raising awareness on essential health topics. One-on-one counselling sessions will also be offered to patients who require guidance or support.

    Dispensary

Common medications for illnesses and symptoms such as coughs, headaches, colds, malaria, hypertension, and arthritis will be distributed upon presentation of prescriptions.

    Freebies

A dedicated stand at the outreach venue will provide beneficiaries with free essential items, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, sanitary pads, and sweets.

    Importance of This Project

    • To make healthcare accessible to communities that may not be able to afford regular visits to health centers.

    • To provide education on critical health issues and promote preventive care.

    • To screen patients, offer immediate treatment, and refer complicated cases to the regional hospital.

    • To expose volunteers to community health challenges and equip them with skills to identify and implement solutions.

At Future for Africa, we believe that the best way to extend knowledge and care is through active community engagement. Consultations with senior health practitioners at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital have confirmed the impact of such initiatives, which is why our humanitarian medical volunteer program places strong emphasis on stakeholder involvement and community-driven solutions. Through this program, volunteers gain meaningful hands-on experience while contributing to the health and well-being of communities across Northern Ghana.

    Medical Outreach Timetable

    08:00–08:30 — Setup & Community Orientation

    • Team sets up registration and clinical stations.

    • Brief the community on the process, expectations, and patient code system.

    • Clearly announce the medication policy (only dispense when clinically necessary).

    08:30–10:00 — Registration & Initial Screening

    • Registration: Assign patient ID or paper codes.

    • Screening: Record vitals, BMI, symptoms, and identify red-flag cases (malnutrition, infections, severe pain, pregnant women).

Note: This window is intentionally brief; for larger crowds, additional volunteers or a rapid triage protocol may be required.

    10:00–11:45 — Clinical Consultations

    • Examine patients flagged during screening.

    • Provide medication only when essential.

    • Document each case using simple forms to maintain workflow.

    • Refer or prioritize severe cases for immediate attention.

Critical: Ending consultations before lunch ensures the afternoon session remains focused and manageable.

    11:45–12:00 — Quick Reset

    • Clinicians wrap up urgent cases.

    • Educators prepare materials for health workshops.

    12:00–13:00 — Lunch Break

    • Full team break.

    • Conduct a brief review of common morning health issues to tailor workshop content.

13:00–14:00 — Health Education Workshop 1: Healthy Habits

    • Topics: Nutrition and locally available foods, hygiene and sanitation, infection prevention, healthy daily routines for families.

Note: Post-lunch engagement dips naturally; keeping sessions concise helps maintain attention.

14:00–14:45 — Health Education Workshop 2: Reproductive & Sexual Health

    • Topics: Antenatal care and danger signs, menstrual health, family planning, STI prevention, consent and safety.

    • If culturally appropriate, separate participants by gender for more effective discussion.

    14:45–15:00 — Wrap-Up, Follow-Up, and Closing

    • Conduct any final consultations for re-checks.

    • Provide referral notes for severe cases.

    • Announce the next outreach date if available.

    • Collect community feedback to inform future activities.
