If you love animals and want to make a meaningful impact during your time abroad, this program is for you.
Based in Bucaramanga, one of Colombia's safest and most authentic cities, you will spend most of your volunteer experience supporting a local rescue center that provides shelter, care, and a second chance to dozens of rescued dogs and cats. Many of the animals have been abandoned, neglected, or rescued from difficult situations. The shelter relies heavily on volunteers to provide daily care and attention.
As a volunteer, you will help with a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the animals and the shelter. Activities may include feeding, cleaning, preparing food, walking dogs, assisting with enrichment activities, socializing animals, and helping keep the shelter clean and organized. Above all, your presence, time, and affection make a real difference in the lives of these animals.
To complement your experience, volunteers also have the opportunity to spend a few days at a wildlife sanctuary located in the beautiful countryside surrounding Bucaramanga. Here, you will learn about Colombia's extraordinary biodiversity and the challenges facing native wildlife. Depending on current needs, activities may include preparing food, maintaining enclosures, supporting environmental projects, and assisting the sanctuary team with daily operations.
This combination of animal welfare and wildlife conservation offers a unique opportunity to contribute to two important causes while gaining a deeper understanding of Colombia's natural environment.
No previous experience with animals is required. What matters most is your enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to help. Outside of volunteering, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore Bucaramanga and its surroundings. Known as the "City of Parks," Bucaramanga offers a pleasant climate, beautiful green spaces, affordable living, and easy access to natural attractions such as the Chicamocha Canyon, waterfalls, hiking trails, and charming colonial towns. Optional Spanish classes can also be added to your stay, allowing you to improve your language skills while fully immersing yourself in Colombian culture.
