    About the program

Volunteering in the medical field is a great opportunity for volunteers.

The medicine project is versatile. You can get involved in a local hospital and/or a non-profit rehabilitation center for disabled children that provides speech therapy, early intervention, visual stimulation, auditory stimulation, pediatric education, physical therapy and psychotherapy. The rehabilitation center improves the lives of children and adults with disabilities by providing free therapies as well as other health-related services. The goal is for (mainly) children to develop physically as well as intellectually.

Working on our health projects offers a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to become familiar with the challenges and health issues of developing countries. All our hospitals and clinics are government approved. The work environment is way different from the circumstances you are used to work. You need to be open minded and able to deal with the sometimes poor health care options that are given.

We have a number of departments who would appreciate your help. you can choose to combine different departments at the same time.

    • General medicine department
    • Nursing department
    • Accident and emergency department
    • maternity department
    • Out patient department (OPD)
    • Dentistry department

You will get to know the different wards of a hospital on Roatan and gain valuable experience in the field of medicine. Collaboration is possible in various medical fields. Volunteers work closely with the doctors and nurses. This allows them to learn the local conditions and get to know a different healthcare system.

This project is open to everyone who want to help make a difference in the lives of underprivileged people . You can participate in our medical project both with and without prior medical knowledge. Prospective medical students can gain their first experience in the medical field. Medical students who are already studying or nurses can further deepen their knowledge by participating in the medical project. Volunteers should be aware that the local practices they join have limited resources. Therapy methods may be different from those considered standard in their home country. We expect that at all times the hygiene guidelines and other requirements of the local hospital are followed by the volunteers.

You should have a good knowledge of Spanish so that you can communicate with your colleagues and patients. For the work in the hospital the volunteers have to bring hospital clothes.
