    About the program

    Project Location

    Located in the heart of the northwest, about 2 hours from Reykjavík. Based just off the main road, we are not set in a town; the only way to get around is by car. Brú's stunning

    surrounding countryside offers the perfect tonic to relax and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Keep in mind that it is a 1-hour drive to the closest city (Borgarnes).

    Around the house, you can find a lot of pure and unspoiled nature, waterfalls, rivers, canyons, and craters. The purpose of the centre is to protect nature in the area and to raise awareness of sustainability among the locals and the visitors who are coming to the area.

    Work

    Being in the Renovation Team, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside skilled foremen to support building houses and new structures for community use, renovating existing

    community buildings, and improving local infrastructure. We will work in houses around Borðeyri. You will have the opportunity to witness the impact of your handiwork and on longer-

    term projects, you’ll be continuing the construction work of previous volunteers. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the manager of the Brú sustainable center and a professional carpenter.

    The main tasks are to maintain and renovate the houses that WF is using for the volunteers. Your activities include, but are not limited to Basic repairs and maintenance tasks as required;

    For example, painting interior walls, creating murals, laying new floors, replacing doors and windows, installing/renovating playgrounds, and helping to insulate walls. While creating a safe

    environment for everyone.

    The work combines practical, hands-on experience with the rewarding goal of helping to restore one of Iceland’s unique cultural landmarks.

    Our first priority in establishing this program is that it should always stem from the organizations and the local community's needs. For this reason, our activities may change depending on the local need at any given time

    Participants

    We gladly accept volunteers from all over the world, most of them between 18 and 45 years old.

    Camp leaders

    There is always one or more leaders for each camp, depending on the size of the group. Leaders represent the link between the hosting community and the group of volunteers. They coordinate the work, organize leisurely activities, plan excursions, organize the shopping, house chores, and cooking sessions. Apart from these additional responsibilities, they are equal to other volunteers. Most of our camp leaders are from other countries, as we are very open-minded in hosting international leaders from different organizations
