The Penguin Rehab and Conservation center in Port Elizabeth serves as the rescue center for the endangered African Penguins.

Join the South African Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre (SANCCOB) in Port Elizabeth, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing and caring for sick or injured African Penguins—also called Jackass Penguins—and other marine birds like gannets, cormorants, and seagulls. ..
Typical day
🐧 A Typical Day as a Volunteer
As a volunteer at SANCCOB, you’ll work closely with the dedicated rehabilitation centre team from around 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, taking part in a variety of hands-on and support tasks that help care for penguins and other marine birds.

Our awesome volunteers arrive on Mondays, when we’ll warmly welcome you and take you to our super comfy volunteer home. After a chance to rest and settle in, we jump straight into action starting Tuesday!
Arrival and departure transfers to and from the airport are included in the fees, making your journey hassle-free.
You can join us any time throughout the year, but please note we take a short break for 2-3 weeks around late December and early January.
This project requires a minimum commitment of 6 weeks to get the full experience and make a real difference.
