Addressing the Growing Stray Animal Crisis in Thailand
Thailand is facing a steadily growing crisis: the number of stray animals, especially dogs, has been rising dramatically over the past decade. Countless strays roam the streets, struggling to survive in extremely poor conditions. You can find them in neighborhoods, hotel areas, construction sites, markets, open fields, and temple grounds. Most of them are malnourished, sick, and left to fend for themselves, with no access to proper care or even shelter.
One of the main challenges is the uncontrolled reproduction among the stray population. With no effective measures in place to manage the number of strays, their population has increased significantly—posing serious risks not only to the animals themselves, but also to local communities and public health. Many of these animals are neglected, mistreated, or driven away. At the same time, public awareness remains low, and education about the situation is still lacking. Without immediate and sustainable action, this growing issue could soon escalate into a full-blown epidemic.
How You Can Help – Volunteer and Make a Difference!
This is where a dedicated non-profit organization, based in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, comes in. The project was established with a clear mission: to provide direct aid to stray dogs in need, and to reduce the overall stray population through humane and long-term solutions.
As a volunteer, you will become part of a compassionate and active team that works tirelessly to support animals in distress. The clinic focuses on two core objectives. First, to care for the strays through feeding programs, medical treatment, and compassionate day-to-day care. Second, to reduce the number of strays through targeted spay and neuter campaigns.
In addition to hands-on animal care, education and awareness are key parts of the clinic's work. Community outreach, adoption efforts, and local education initiatives aim to inform and empower the local population—laying the groundwork for real and lasting change.
A Project with Purpose and Heart
What began in October 2013 as a simple feeding program for stray dogs has grown into a fully functioning animal welfare organization. In May 2014, the project took a major step forward thanks to generous donations, allowing supporters to build basic kennels and open a grassroots veterinary clinic.
Today, the organization operates with 12 kennels, a playpen, a recovery area, and a clinic where routine surgeries and treatments are performed. The entire project is funded by donations and supported by the energy and commitment of international and local volunteers—people like you who want to make a difference.
