    About the program

Life on this Husky farm follows the rhythm of Swedish Lapland — short, dark winters and long, bright summers. With a busy schedule and high standards for every guest experience, volunteers are essential year-round. During winter, the farm is fully booked with tours, but in summer your help becomes even more crucial: without the tours, the Huskies need plenty of attention and activities to burn off their energy.

The project started in 2017 with just a few dogs and has since grown into a thriving outdoor tourism experience with over 30 Huskies and two cats. Life here is simple and close to nature: living deep in the wilderness, heating with firewood, and sharing the beauty of Swedish Lapland through unforgettable Husky adventures.

As a volunteer, you’ll support daily farm life, help maintain the high quality of the experience, and ensure the Huskies are happy, healthy, and well cared for — all while enjoying a true taste of Lapland.

Most of your work on the farm will revolve around the Huskies. You’ll keep their kennels and play areas clean, refill water, feed and brush the dogs, take them for walks, and, of course, give them plenty of cuddles.

You’ll also help with everyday tasks around the farm, such as cooking, cleaning the guest house, and small maintenance or repair work. Occasionally, you may be asked to assist with transfer trips as well!

    Typical day

On cold days, mornings start by lighting the fire to warm up the house, followed by feeding the Huskies. Once the dogs are taken care of, everyone shares breakfast and goes over the day’s schedule. After that, the work begins.

On cold days, mornings start by lighting the fire to warm up the house, followed by feeding the Huskies. Once the dogs are taken care of, everyone shares breakfast and goes over the day’s schedule. After that, the work begins.

In summer, you’ll spend your days playing with the Huskies, taking them for walks, exploring the surrounding forests and lakes, training and bonding with them. In winter, the dogs are harnessed for sled tours, and everything is prepared for the trips. Your tasks will alternate between caring for the animals, assisting guests in winter, and helping with daily household chores.

Evenings are for dinner together, and the Huskies are fed again. In summer, you’ll work around 5–7 hours a day. Depending on how many volunteers are on site, workdays may be shorter or longer. Volunteers get two days off per week.

There are no specific requirements for participation. It is important to enjoy working with animals and to be interested in animal welfare. Good physical fitness is often an advantage.

Up in the far north of Europe lies Swedish Lapland, and our project is right in the heart of its stunning landscapes — endless forests, crystal-clear lakes, and scenic mountains are waiting for you!

In summer, the long days give you plenty of time to explore, enjoy the midnight sun, and soak in the peace of this vast, sometimes empty wilderness. With average temperatures around 20 °C, it’s perfect for hiking, walks, and outdoor adventures — all just steps away from the Huskies.

If you’re ready to unplug, live close to nature, and enjoy life in the great outdoors, Swedish Lapland is calling! Here, every day brings fresh experiences and a true taste of northern life.

    Details on arrival

This program is only available from April to October and you can start any Wednesday or Friday - just let us know what date works best for you!

After you arrive at Arvidsjaur Airport, a team member will pick you up by car. If you fly into Skellefteå Airport instead, they can also pick you up, but this transfer costs 100 €. The drive from Arvidsjaur to the farm takes about an hour. Once you arrive, you’ll be shown your room, the surrounding area, and everything you need to know.

Note: In Sweden, card payments are far more common than cash. You’ll get more detailed information about this during your pre-departure preparation.

The orientation program takes place during your first three days. You’ll get up close to the Huskies in their kennels, meet them all, and spend your first days learning each dog’s name and getting to know their personalities. The team will also give you important tips on safety and hygiene while on the farm.

Once you’re settled in, it’s time to jump into your adventure! On your first day, you’ll get hands-on with the Huskies — feeding, training, and playing with them — while also helping around the house and pitching in with general maintenance. It’s a full day of learning, fun, and furry friends!
