The Eco-Agriculture project is based on a collective farm that combines several family farms working together to make the most impact and increase their output. These families utilize efficient, modern farming practices combined with traditional techniques to improve environmental sustainability. Eco-Agriculture project sites are based in the Huyro Region in the highlands of the Amazon rainforest, approximately 6 hours from the city of Cusco.
Volunteers get first-hand experience with the production of some of the highest quality tea, coffee, and cocoa in the world and experience traditional life with a Peruvian farming family.
Eco-Agriculture volunteers may be asked to:
- Plant and prune coffee, tea, or cocoa trees and plants
- Tend to coffee, tea, or cocoa trees or plants
- Harvest and process coffee, tea, and cocoa
- Package and market the harvested coffee, tea, and cocoa
- Assist with reforestation projects and removing invasive species of weeds
- Support supplemental agriculture projects in the area
You are always supported by Maximo Nivel’s Field Managers, but they are not on site at your project. You work directly with the Spanish-speaking project director and their assistants.
