    About the program

Our veterinary volunteer project is dedicated to the care of domestic animals, particularly dogs and cats. In Ghana, there is a shortage of veterinary professionals, and interest in veterinary careers is limited. Our veterinary volunteers are essential to the health, breeding, and welfare of these animals. This project is ideal for students on break or holidaymakers who wish to provide care and support to animal services. You engage in daily activities that involve caring for animals, paying special attention to their individual needs. They evaluate animals for signs of illness, maintain their medical records, and assess their behavior. Additionally, you assist in diagnosing animals to detect diseases and injuries. They also help administer medications and perform surgical procedures, including spaying and orthopaedic surgeries. You play a vital role in educating pet owners about their animals' specific conditions and assist in training, such as taking dogs for walks. At the veterinary center, you will collaborate with staff to care for other household animals, including pigs, cows, and sheep. Occasionally, you will conduct home visits to assist with dog training. This experience is both enjoyable and rewarding for all participants. You are encouraged to bring appropriate work attire, protective gear, and any necessary allergy medications. Moreover, you can participate in medical outreach programs at local schools to provide health education to the community. You will be based in Accra and should bring safety clothing, shoes, face masks, hand sanitisers, and rubbing alcohol. You should be prepared to walk and train dogs. Our staff is available around the clock to provide any necessary support, and we will assign a staff member to address your needs.
