Your place of work will be an international community dedicated to exploring and practicing sustainable ways of living. Situated on a 40-hectare property, the community runs a variety of projects focused on nature conservation and sustainability. Everything is organized by a non-profit organization that works on rethinking how humans coexist with each other and the environment — not only ecologically, but also economically and socially.

The community grows its own fruit and vegetables using permaculture methods and meets most of its energy needs with solar power generated by its own photovoltaic systems. It is actively involved in regenerating and restoring natural ecosystems and runs accommodations and events on the property to help visitors connect with topics related to sustainability, health, and nature.

As a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to take part in hands-on educational opportunities, including the popular Garden Study Days, usually held every other Thursday. These sessions offer practical insights into syntropic farming, plant knowledge, and soil health, providing a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture and ecological practices in a tranquil setting.

Australia has seen a significant rise in endangered species in recent years, a trend that is particularly concerning given the country’s unique biodiversity. Many of these species are found nowhere else on Earth. Scientists point to mining, invasive species, climate change, and widespread deforestation — especially for agriculture and livestock — as the leading causes. These practices are pushing ecosystems to the brink, highlighting the urgent need to rethink how we interact with the natural world.

The eco-community you’ll be supporting has been developing and testing alternative approaches for nearly two decades. Their work includes practical applications of environmentally friendly agriculture and sustainable living. As a volunteer, you’ll help further these efforts and contribute to the community’s long-term goal of becoming fully self-sufficient.

This means growing their own food, producing clean energy, and using innovative systems such as composting toilets. Beyond hosting events and retreats, the community also aims to supply the local neighborhood with food and natural products as a way to sustain the project financially. Your support helps amplify their mission: to make sustainable lifestyles more visible and viable — both within and beyond the borders of the project.
