    About the program

Volunteer in Indonesia with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference by supporting community construction projects in the coastal town of Senggigi, located on the island of Lombok. Known for its scenic beaches, relaxed pace of life, and close knit communities, Senggigi offers an ideal setting for volunteers who enjoy hands on work that creates visible, long lasting impact.

You will help improve essential community infrastructure by assisting with construction, repairs, painting, and general building projects that support schools, community centers, and local facilities. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to meaningful development efforts while experiencing daily life in a traditional Indonesian community.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to enhance and maintain community spaces that are important to local residents. Many facilities in Lombok require ongoing maintenance and improvement, and volunteers provide valuable physical support that helps create safer, more functional environments for education, community activities, and everyday use.

As a Construction volunteer in Senggigi, your work will be practical, active, and rewarding:

    • Building Support: Assisting with basic construction tasks such as mixing cement, carrying materials, laying bricks, and supporting small structural improvements.
    • Renovation Work: Painting walls, repairing classrooms or community buildings, and helping refresh facilities affected by wear and tear.
    • Community Projects: Supporting small scale building initiatives that respond to local needs, which may vary depending on current priorities.
    • Site Maintenance: Preparing work areas, organizing materials, cleaning tools, and ensuring project sites remain safe and tidy.

Volunteers work alongside experienced local builders, project coordinators, and fellow international volunteers. Local staff provide clear task instruction, demonstrate techniques, and oversee safety on site, while volunteers contribute energy, teamwork, and hands on support.

No special equipment is required for this program. All construction tools, materials, and basic safety equipment are provided on site. Volunteers should bring comfortable clothing suitable for physical outdoor work, closed toe shoes, and items to stay comfortable in warm weather.

No previous construction experience is required. A willingness to learn, physical readiness, and a positive attitude are the most important qualities for volunteers on this project.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Senggigi with meals provided each day. Transport to and from construction sites is arranged locally. Volunteers gain practical building experience, work closely with the local community, and spend weekends exploring Senggigi’s beaches, nearby islands, waterfalls, and cultural attractions. Available year round, this program offers a rewarding and culturally immersive opportunity to support community development in Lombok.
