    About the program

Volunteer in Vietnam with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference by supporting food outreach initiatives in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s largest and most dynamic urban center. This fast paced city is home to vibrant communities but also significant inequality, with many individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. This program offers volunteers the opportunity to support essential community outreach while experiencing daily life in urban Vietnam.

You will assist local organizations that provide food and basic support to vulnerable community members, including low income families, the elderly, and individuals experiencing hardship. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to immediate community wellbeing while gaining insight into social support systems in Vietnam.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to help reduce hunger and support food security for disadvantaged individuals in Ho Chi Minh City. Local outreach organizations rely heavily on volunteer support to prepare, distribute, and deliver meals to those in need. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring food reaches vulnerable community members in a dignified, organized, and compassionate way.

As a Food Outreach volunteer in Ho Chi Minh City, your duties will be hands on, meaningful, and community focused:

    • Meal Preparation: Assisting with food preparation, packaging meals, and helping organize ingredients in community kitchens.
    • Food Distribution: Helping distribute meals to individuals and families at outreach locations or through mobile delivery programs.
    • Community Support: Interacting respectfully with recipients, offering encouragement, and supporting a welcoming environment during outreach activities.
    • Operational Assistance: Supporting logistics such as packing supplies, cleaning work areas, and helping ensure outreach runs smoothly.

Volunteers work closely with local NGO staff, community organizers, kitchen teams, and fellow international volunteers. Local teams provide guidance on food safety, cultural sensitivity, and daily procedures to ensure outreach activities are respectful, safe, and effective.

No special equipment is required for this program. All food preparation tools, safety equipment, and materials are provided by the host organizations. Volunteers should bring comfortable clothing suitable for kitchen and outdoor work, closed toe shoes, and a respectful, community focused attitude.

No previous outreach or food service experience is required. Reliability, compassion, teamwork, and a willingness to help where needed are the most important qualities for volunteers on this project.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Ho Chi Minh City with meals provided each day. Transport to and from food outreach locations is arranged locally. Volunteers gain meaningful experience in community support and social outreach, connect with volunteers from around the world, and spend free time exploring Ho Chi Minh City’s markets, cultural landmarks, street food scene, and surrounding attractions. Available year round, this program offers a rewarding and impactful opportunity to support food outreach initiatives in Vietnam.
