    About the program

Volunteer in Indonesia with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference by promoting health education in the coastal town of Senggigi, located on the island of Lombok. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and strong community ties, Senggigi offers a welcoming setting for volunteers who want to support wellbeing initiatives while experiencing authentic Indonesian culture.

You will help local children and community members develop essential health and hygiene knowledge that supports healthier daily habits. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to public health education while living and volunteering in a close knit coastal community.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to improve health awareness and hygiene practices among children and local residents. Access to structured health education can be limited in some areas, and volunteers play an important role in delivering practical, easy to understand lessons that can positively influence long term health and wellbeing.

As a Health Education volunteer in Senggigi, your work will be interactive, practical, and community focused:

    • Hygiene Education: Teaching children the importance of hand washing, oral hygiene, and general personal cleanliness through demonstrations and simple activities.
    • Health Awareness: Introducing basic concepts related to nutrition, hydration, and healthy daily routines in an accessible and engaging way.
    • Creative Learning: Using games, visuals, songs, and interactive demonstrations to communicate health messages to participants with varying levels of English.
    • Lesson Support: Preparing simple teaching materials, setting up activities, and working alongside local staff to deliver age appropriate sessions.

Volunteers work closely with local teachers, community coordinators, and fellow international volunteers. Local staff provide guidance on lesson structure, cultural sensitivity, and appropriate teaching approaches, ensuring all activities are respectful and aligned with community needs. Qualified medical professionals may also have opportunities to support broader health campaigns, subject to verification of credentials.

No special equipment is required for this program. All teaching materials and basic supplies are provided on site. Volunteers may bring small visual aids or stationery if they wish, but this is optional. Comfortable clothing suitable for school and community environments is recommended.

No previous teaching or medical experience is required for school based health education activities. A positive attitude, clear communication, and an interest in promoting healthy habits make this project especially rewarding.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Senggigi with meals provided each day. Transport to and from your placement is arranged locally. Volunteers gain hands on experience in community health education, connect with like minded volunteers from around the world, and spend weekends exploring Senggigi’s beaches, nearby islands, waterfalls, and cultural sites. Available year round, this program offers a meaningful and well supported opportunity to promote health and wellbeing in Lombok.
