You will assist with short term medical camps that provide basic healthcare services, screenings, and health education to underserved populations. These campaigns operate with a minimum group size of eight volunteers, ensuring sufficient capacity to deliver safe, effective, and well organized medical support. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to public health initiatives while gaining insight into healthcare delivery in a developing country context.
Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to improve access to basic healthcare and early medical intervention for individuals who may otherwise go without treatment. Medical camps help identify health concerns, provide essential checkups, and raise awareness around preventative care. Operating with a minimum group size ensures that medical professionals are adequately supported and that patient flow, logistics, and outreach activities can run smoothly. Volunteers play an important role in supporting local medical teams, improving efficiency, and extending the reach of healthcare services during campaign periods.
As a Medical Campaign volunteer in Nepal, your responsibilities will depend on your qualifications and experience and may include:
- Clinical Support: Assisting doctors and nurses with basic non invasive tasks such as recording patient information, checking vital signs, and preparing equipment.
- Patient Assistance: Helping manage patient flow, guiding individuals through different stations, and offering reassurance during consultations.
- Health Education: Supporting basic health awareness activities related to hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, and preventative care.
- Operational Support: Assisting with setup and pack down of medical camps, organizing supplies, and supporting daily logistics.
Volunteers work closely with qualified local doctors, nurses, health workers, and fellow international volunteers as part of a coordinated group. Local medical professionals provide supervision, guidance, and task allocation to ensure all activities are appropriate, ethical, and aligned with local healthcare standards. Responsibilities are always matched to the volunteer’s level of training and experience.
No special equipment is required for this program. All medical equipment, supplies, and materials needed for the campaigns are provided by the organizing teams. Volunteers should bring professional clothing suitable for a medical setting, closed toe shoes, and any personal items required for comfort during long clinic days.
Relevant medical or healthcare study or experience is required for this project, and documentation may be requested prior to placement. Compassion, professionalism, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity are essential qualities for volunteers working in medical outreach environments.
Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Nepal with meals provided each day. Transport to and from medical campaign locations is arranged locally. Campaigns are scheduled and confirmed once the minimum group size of eight participants is reached. Volunteers gain hands on exposure to community healthcare delivery, work alongside experienced medical professionals, and spend free time exploring Nepal’s cultural heritage, villages, and natural landscapes.
