    About the program

Volunteer in Laos with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference by supporting English education in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage town known for its golden temples, peaceful atmosphere, and strong community values. Located along the Mekong River, Luang Prabang offers an inspiring environment for volunteers who want to contribute to education while experiencing life in Laos.

You will support local students by assisting teachers, leading interactive lessons, and providing conversational English practice in schools and community learning centers. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to educational development while immersing yourself in daily life within Lao communities.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to improve students’ confidence and ability to communicate in English, a skill that can expand access to further education, employment, and international opportunities. Many schools in Luang Prabang have limited access to fluent English speakers. Volunteers provide valuable language exposure that supports listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills in a supportive learning environment.

As a Teaching English volunteer in Luang Prabang, your duties will be engaging, creative, and rewarding:

    • Classroom Support: Assisting local teachers with English lessons, reading activities, vocabulary building, and pronunciation practice.
    • Independent Teaching: Leading simple lessons, conversation sessions, and language games that encourage active participation.
    • Creative Learning: Using songs, storytelling, role play, arts and crafts, and interactive activities to make learning accessible and enjoyable.
    • School Assistance: Helping prepare teaching materials, organize classrooms, and support daily school routines.

Volunteers work closely with local teachers, school staff, and fellow international volunteers. Local educators provide lesson guidance, classroom structure, and cultural context, while volunteers contribute enthusiasm, creativity, and conversational English practice that enriches the learning experience.

No special equipment is required for this program. All teaching materials are provided by the schools or local coordinators. Volunteers may bring small teaching aids or stationery if they wish, but this is optional. Comfortable, modest clothing suitable for a school or community classroom environment is recommended.

No previous teaching experience is required. Clear English communication, patience, cultural sensitivity, and a positive attitude toward working with students are the most important qualities for volunteers on this project.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Luang Prabang with meals provided each day. Transport to and from teaching placements is arranged locally. Volunteers gain hands on classroom experience, connect with volunteers from around the world, and spend free time exploring Luang Prabang’s temples, waterfalls, markets, and surrounding countryside. Available year round, this program offers a supportive and culturally immersive opportunity to contribute to English education in Laos.
