Make a meaningful difference protecting endangered sea turtles on the beautiful island of Lombok, based in the coastal area of Senggigi. Surrounded by clear waters, coral reefs, and unspoiled beaches, this region provides an inspiring setting for volunteers passionate about marine conservation and wildlife protection.
You will support vital sea turtle conservation efforts by helping care for hatchlings, protect nesting sites, and assist with environmental initiatives that safeguard marine ecosystems. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to hands on conservation work while living in a relaxed coastal community in Indonesia.
Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to support the protection and survival of endangered sea turtle species affected by pollution, habitat loss, and human activity. Conservation efforts focus on safeguarding nests, caring for hatchlings, and reducing threats to turtles through environmental education and beach clean ups. Volunteers play a key role in maintaining daily operations and ensuring the long term success of the conservation program.
As a Turtle Conservation volunteer in Senggigi, your work will be practical, outdoors, and highly rewarding:
- Turtle Care: Assisting with the care and monitoring of hatchlings, cleaning tanks, and supporting feeding routines where required.
- Nest Protection: Helping identify and protect turtle nests, monitoring hatching activity, and supporting safe release efforts.
- Environmental Conservation: Participating in beach clean ups and activities that reduce plastic waste and protect marine habitats.
- Center Support: Assisting with general maintenance, preparing materials, and supporting daily conservation activities at the project site.
Volunteers work closely with local conservation staff, marine specialists, and fellow international volunteers. Local teams provide training, share knowledge about turtle behavior and marine ecosystems, and ensure all conservation activities follow ethical and responsible guidelines.
No special equipment is required for this program. All tools and materials needed for turtle care and conservation work are provided on site. Volunteers should bring comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor and beach environments, closed toe shoes or sandals with good grip, sunscreen, and reusable water bottles.
No previous conservation experience is required. A love for nature, willingness to work outdoors, and a respectful attitude toward wildlife make this project especially meaningful.
Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Senggigi with meals provided each day. Transport to and from the conservation site is arranged locally. Volunteers gain hands on experience in marine conservation, connect with like minded volunteers from around the world, and spend weekends exploring Senggigi’s beaches, nearby islands, waterfalls, and coastal landscapes. Available year round, this program offers a highly rewarding and well supported opportunity to protect endangered sea turtles in Lombok.
