Make a meaningful difference by supporting women’s education and empowerment initiatives in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital city. You will support local women by assisting with education programs, skills training, and confidence building activities that help improve independence, wellbeing, and long term opportunities. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to women led development initiatives while gaining insight into daily life and social challenges in Nepal.
Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to empower women through education, life skills development, and access to supportive learning environments. Many women face barriers to education and employment due to social, economic, or cultural factors. Volunteers help strengthen existing programs by offering additional support, encouragement, and practical assistance that contributes to confidence, self reliance, and improved livelihoods.
As a Women’s Education volunteer in Kathmandu, your role will be meaningful, skills based, and community focused:
- Education Support: Assisting with basic literacy, numeracy, or English lessons depending on program needs.
- Skills Development: Supporting workshops focused on vocational skills, financial literacy, health awareness, or life skills.
- Program Assistance: Helping prepare materials, organize learning sessions, and support daily activities at women’s centers.
- Community Engagement: Encouraging participation, supporting group discussions, and helping foster a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Volunteers work closely with local educators, program coordinators, community leaders, and fellow international volunteers. Local staff provide guidance on cultural expectations, program objectives, and appropriate teaching approaches, while volunteers contribute energy, encouragement, and additional capacity that strengthens women’s education initiatives.
No special equipment is required for this program. All learning materials and resources are provided by the women’s centers. Volunteers may bring small stationery items or a personal laptop if they wish, but this is optional. Modest, comfortable clothing suitable for community and classroom settings is recommended.
No previous teaching or development experience is required. Cultural sensitivity, patience, adaptability, and a genuine interest in supporting women’s empowerment make this project especially rewarding.
Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Kathmandu with meals provided each day. Transport to and from women’s education placements is arranged locally. Volunteers gain valuable insight into gender focused community development, build meaningful connections with local women, and spend free time exploring Kathmandu’s cultural landmarks, markets, and surrounding communities. Available year round, this program offers a supportive and impactful opportunity to contribute to women’s education and empowerment in Nepal.
