    About the program

    Support the permanent employees at the local zoo in the Peruvian Central Andes with various daily tasks like taking care of animals.

    We are grateful for volunteers that want to work at the local zoo which is located in Huancayo, in the Peruvian Central Andes.
    At the zoo there are more than 100 peruvian amazonical and andean species of animals like pumas, lions, peruvian bears that are almost extincted as well as pantheras, snakes ...

    About the program

    We are grateful for volunteers that want to work at the local zoo which is located in Huancayo, in the Peruvian Central Andes.
    At the zoo there are more than 100 peruvian amazonical and andean species of animals like pumas, lions, peruvian bears that are almost extincted as well as pantheras, snakes and condors.
    As a volunteer you will support the local staff with feeding the animals, giving them medical assistance, cleaning their cages, rescuing them from mistreat and giving them a proper shelter. Other tasks that might occur occasionally are helping to maintain the area in general, doing gardening, building, painting, drawing, designing banners, guiding groups and making workshops, activities and shows for children and visitors.

    For participating in that project at least 3 hours of working every weekday in the morning.

    -La Selva Central, home to many Ashaninka tribes

    -Santa Rosa de Ocopa, the oldest monastery in the region (also featuring the largest library, with 25.000 ancient books)

    -The first Peruvian capital "Jauja"

    -The largest water reserve in Peru, ...

    We are surrounded by many tourist attractions such as:

    -La Selva Central, home to many Ashaninka tribes

    -Santa Rosa de Ocopa, the oldest monastery in the region (also featuring the largest library, with 25.000 ancient books)

    -The first Peruvian capital "Jauja"

    -The largest water reserve in Peru, "Reserva Paisajistica Nor Yauyos"

    -Huaytapallana Glacier ( 5.200 m.a.s.l.)

    -Numerous pre-Inca ruins

     

    During your stay you can also share your free time in several activities in our local institutions enjoying an intercultural experience where you can share and realize your own dreams, practice your career or learn new things like the ones listed below.

    Requirements

    Minimum Age: 14 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 14 years old on the program start date.

    Language Skills

    You need to speak Spanish (intermediate level) or English (basic level)

    Time Commitment

    Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 13:00

    On-site Services

    We provide a private bedroom with private bathroom, breakfast and lunch from monday to friday at our home place.
    The fees also include breakfast and lunch every week day that we usually eat together.
    At our house you have access to internet via wifi.
     private bathroom with hot water. 

    Airport Pickup at Jorge Chavez International Airport

    We can provide an airport pick up,   - the next airport is Jauja , francisco Carle ,  (45km distance).


    A pick up from the bus station (Cruz del Sur) in Huancayo is for free. 

    Accommodation

    We provide a room at our house which is located in the district Chilca of Huancayo.
    Around the house there is a terrace as well as a big quite courtyard with a lot of free space.
    For your use we will provide bed linen . The room contains all the necessary furniture. friobar, microwave, tv, interrnet, coffee maker, 


    Food & Beverages

    We will serve typical Peruvian food for breakfast and lunch from monday to friday  .

    All meals will be served either at our small kitchen or at our dining room.

    If you like to prepare your own meals feel free to use our kitchen area.
    In the morning we will serve  breakfast. For lunch we provide a hot meal according to traditional Peruvian food style. 
    Please be aware that you can not drink tapwater in Peru. So if you need additional water between the daily meals you will have to buy it by yourself.

    The nearest airport is Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) in Lima. We assist you to find cheap flights to Peru. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS
